Meditation is a natural state of the human mind—at rest, open, alert. The basic meditation technique predates all religious traditions, though it is used in one way or another by each of them. Undertaken as a steady practice, meditation allows the mind to relax and settle. It encourages our inherent qualities of stability, clarity and mental strength to emerge.

The word for meditation in
is "shamatha" in Sanskrit (Tibetan: shi-ne), which means "peacefully abiding." Peacefully abiding describes the mind as it naturally is. The word "peace" tells the whole story.  This doesn't mean that we're peacefully ignoring things. It means that the mind is able to be present, without constantly leaving.

Along with yoga, meditation and creative visualization can help maintain the energy flows which have been opened by the shamanic healing or hypnosis experience.  It is the beginning and the end of all practices.
